Leeds Women’s Aid

Leeds Women’s Aid (LWA) supports women and children predominantly from the Leeds, Yorkshire and Humber region but can also be accessed by women from across the UK. Additionally LWA also offers services to men and the trans community through training and leading services in supporting and reducing the barriers to support for LGBT+ people

LWA can offer:

  • Emergency refuge accommodation

  • 24/7 telephone helpline

  • Drop-In services

  • Healthy Relationship programmes

  • Independent Domestic Violence Advocates (IDVAs)

  • Working with women experiencing complex needs

  • Community development, support and interventions for children and young people

Support After Rape & Sexual Violence Leeds

SARSVL is the Leeds rape crisis centre providing independent, confidential support to women and girls affected by any kind of sexual violence at any times in their lives. SARSVL can offer:

  • Telephone support

  • Email support

  • Text Message support

  • Face to face support sessions

  • Individual Counselling

  • Short-term Wellbeing Programme

  • ISVA (Independent Sexual Violence Advocate) support

This centre is open to all women and girls and provides emotional support and signposting.

Additionally, the advocacy service is open to women aged 18 and over and provides practical and emotional support to women who have reported to the police or are considering doing so or are at all stages of the criminal justice process.

Behind Closed Doors

Behind Closed Doors helps people throughout Leeds whose lives have been, or are, affected by domestic violence and abuse to cope, recover and move on from their experiences. The Community Domestic Violence team are available to help any person at high risk of harm from violent and abusive relationships. BCD offers practical support surrounding a range of areas through face-to-face sessions in safe locations through the community:

  • Safety Planning

  • Housing

  • Benefits

  • Budgeting

  • Social Care

  • Community engagement

  • Accompanying families to court dates

  • Liaising with various agencies

  • Referrals

The aim of the team at Behind Closed Doors is to reduce the risk of harm and improve overall safety and well-being through a client-focused approach.
